Frequently asked questions
What does this geography test measure and who is it useful for?
It measures knowledge of landlocked nations, coastal borders, flags and territorial outlines through themed questions. It is useful for learners, curious readers and people preparing an exam on world geography, rather than for a professional purpose.
Which format and level should I choose first?
There are 3 levels: Easy, Intermediate and Expert, each with a 10-question Short version and a 30-question Full version. Short version gives a quick overview; Full version gives a more precise score. Start with Easy to see how it feels.
How can I prepare for this kind of geography test?
Practise map recognition and flag identification with blank outlines and flag charts. Work on distinguishing landlocked countries from coastal ones, and on locating major rivers, island groups and mountain ranges. The optional Hint gives a method tip without giving the answer.
How do I pass, and what bands and certificate do I get?
A pass needs 6 correct answers out of 10 in a Short version or 18 out of 30 in a Full version. Bands: Needs work below 40%, Intermediate from 40%, Advanced from 60%, Expert from 80% only at Expert level. Passing earns a PDF certificate.
What happens if I retake the test, and how do rankings use my score?
You can retake as often as you want with Start again; the questions are the same and in the same order, so retakes mostly measure memory. In The rankings only your best attempt counts: highest score, then shortest time.
Who can see my result and how is my location determined by the site?
Your result is visible only to you. Country and city are estimated from your internet connection, never from GPS. Unlocked results appear in public rankings, but they show only first name and last initial, country, city, score and time.
