Frequently asked questions
What does this test measure, and who is it for?
It measures your knowledge of British innovators and leaders across fields like medicine, engineering, politics and the arts. It is useful for learners, curious readers and anyone revising general knowledge of British history, not as an official qualification.
Which format and level should I choose first?
Start with Easy, Short version for a quick overview, then move to Intermediate or Expert as needed. A Full version gives a more precise score. The level selector is on this page or in the start window.
How should I prepare for this particular subject?
Revise how British figures contributed to the Industrial Revolution, parliamentary politics, medicine and the arts. Practise distinguishing people from the same era by the contribution named in each prompt, and train to answer under the format's time limit.
How are my score band and certificate determined?
You get one point per correct answer, and the band depends on the share: Needs work below 40%, Intermediate from 40%, Advanced from 60%, Expert from 80% only at Expert level. Passing requires 6/10 short or 18/30 full, earning a PDF certificate.
What happens when I retake the test or appear in rankings?
You can retake with Start again; questions are the same order, so it mostly measures memory. Rankings show only your best attempt: first name, last initial, country, city, score and time, with country and city estimated from IP.
Who can see my result, and how is my privacy handled?
A result is visible only to you. You can request deletion from the site's data rights page. Country and city in rankings come from your IP, never GPS, and unlocked results appear publicly only with first name and last initial.
