Frequently asked questions
Which grammar and punctuation areas does this assessment focus on?
It focuses on standard British English: possessive forms, who/whom, relative clauses, serial comma, adverb placement and subjunctive mood. It suits learners and exam candidates wanting a precise diagnostic.
How do the available formats and difficulty levels work?
There are Easy, Intermediate and Expert levels, each its own series with the same number of questions. Short version has 10 questions in about 3 minutes; full version has 30 questions, about 8, 9 or 10 minutes depending on level. Choose the level on this page or in the starting window.
Which format should I pick for a quick overview rather than a precise score?
Pick the Short version for a quick overview; pick the Full version for a more precise score. Both are available at every level, and the level you choose determines question difficulty, not the number of questions.
What can I revise specifically to prepare for this test?
Work on apostrophes in possessives, formal who/whom choices, and comma placement in lists. Practise timed sentence corrections, focusing on standard British usage over casual speech. Use the Hint when stuck, as it never lowers your score.
How are the result bands calculated after I finish?
Bands use your share of correct answers: below 40% is "Needs work", from 40% "Intermediate", from 60% "Advanced", and from 80% "Expert", but "Expert" only exists at Expert level. At other levels the top band is "Advanced".
When do I receive a certificate and what does it include?
You receive a PDF certificate only if the test counts as passed: at least 6 correct answers out of 10 in a short version, or 18 out of 30 in a full version. It includes your first and last name, score, date, a certificate number and a QR code.
What happens if I retake, appear in rankings, or want privacy?
Retakes use Start again but questions stay the same, so they mostly measure memory. Rankings show only your best attempt with first name, last name initial, country, city, score and time. Your result is visible only to you.
