Frequently asked questions
What does this Music test measure, and who is it for?
It measures factual recall of UK chart milestones, band origins, album artwork details, discography facts and solo career paths. It is useful for curious listeners, learners revising British music history and anyone preparing a music history exam, not listening ability.
How do formats and levels differ, and how do I choose?
Each level has a Short version of 10 questions and a Full version of 30 questions. Short lasts about 3 minutes and is a quick overview; Full takes about 8, 9 or 10 minutes depending on level and gives a more precise score. Choose your level first.
What should I revise or practise before taking this test?
Revise British alternative and indie discography, album artwork details and lead singers' solo work. For visual questions, practise describing a cover in your own words, then notice what you missed. Train with short timed sessions so the countdown feels familiar.
Does using the Hint button affect my score?
No. Each question offers one optional Hint. It gives a method tip for that kind of question, never the answer, and it does not lower your score. Use it whenever you hesitate, as there is no penalty.
How should I read my result and band?
You get one point per correct answer. Below 40 % is Needs work, from 40 % Intermediate, from 60 % Advanced, and from 80 % Expert only at Expert level. At Easy and Intermediate levels the top band is Advanced, not Expert.
What score do I need to pass, and what does the certificate include?
Pass with 6 correct answers from 10 in any Short version, or 18 from 30 in any Full version, at any level. Once unlocked, a PDF certificate includes first and last name, score, date, certificate number and QR code, emailed to you and downloadable.
How do retakes, rankings and privacy work together?
You can use Start again, but questions repeat in the same order, so retakes mostly measure memory. When you can, only your best attempt appears in The rankings: highest score, then fastest time. Only you see your result; country and city come from IP, never GPS.
