Frequently asked questions
What does this spelling test measure, and who is it for?
It measures precision with Greek loanwords and formal suffix rules in professional and technical spelling. It suits learners, curious readers and anyone preparing a spelling or language exam, not as an official qualification.
Which format and level should I choose before starting?
Start with 'Easy, Short version' for a quick overview or 'Easy, Full version' for a more precise score. There are 3 levels, Easy, Intermediate and Expert, each with the same number of questions and rising difficulty; choose the level selector on this page.
Can I skip questions or change an answer during the test?
No skipping ahead is possible: questions come one at a time in a fixed order and you must pick an answer to move on. You can go back, change an answer, and flag questions using 'Bookmark for review'. Time runs continuously.
What should I practise before attempting this test?
Revise Greek loanwords, formal suffix patterns, single versus double consonants, and silent Greek consonants. Work methodically: compare options letter by letter and use the optional 'Hint' for method tips that never give the answer or reduce your score.
How is the score turned into a band, and what is the pass mark?
You earn one point per correct answer. Bands follow the share: 'Needs work' below 40%, 'Intermediate' from 40%, 'Advanced' from 60%, 'Expert' from 80% only on the Expert level. Pass marks are 6 out of 10 or 18 out of 30 depending on version.
What does the certificate after passing contain?
A passed test earns a PDF certificate with your first and last name, score, date, a certificate number and a QR code opening a verification page on the site. It is attached to the result email and downloadable from your account.
Can I retake the test, and who sees my result?
Yes, use 'Start again'; questions are the same and in the same order, so retakes mostly measure memory. Your result is visible only to you. Public rankings show only first name, last initial, country, city, score and time. Deleting personal data can be requested via the data rights page.
