Frequently asked questions
Who is this vocabulary test most useful for?
It suits learners and curious readers wanting to check advanced adjectives, synonyms, antonyms, sensory and literary terms, or anyone preparing for an exam on descriptive language. It focuses on formal contexts and precise word choice, not basic literacy.
Which level and format should I choose first?
Choose Easy for a gentle start, Intermediate for more challenge, or Expert for the hardest questions. Short version gives 10 questions in about 3 minutes for an overview; Full version has 30 questions for a more precise score.
How can I prepare for the kind of language tested here?
Revise advanced adjectives, precise synonyms and antonyms, and terms for communication styles, sensory descriptions and literary tone. Practise distinguishing near-synonyms by nuance, and read each prompt carefully before choosing; a hint gives a method tip without giving the answer.
What does my score and band actually mean?
Your result shows correct answers out of the total, one point each. Bands are Needs work below 40%, Intermediate from 40%, Advanced from 60%, and Expert from 80% only at Expert level; other levels top at Advanced.
Do I get a certificate if I pass, and what does it show?
A pass requires at least 6 correct out of 10 in a Short version or 18 out of 30 in a Full version. The PDF certificate includes first and last name, score, date, certificate number and a QR code leading to a verification page.
Can I retake it and how do rankings use my result?
You can retake with Start again; the questions are the same, so it mostly measures memory. Rankings show only first name, last initial, country, city, score and time, using your best attempt: highest score, then shortest time. Your full result remains private.
