Frequently asked questions

What does this test measure and who is it useful for?

It measures knowledge of British wartime military strategies, civilian experiences, and international conferences. It is useful for learners, curious readers, and anyone preparing an exam on this period.

What version and level choices exist before I begin?

There are Easy, Intermediate and Expert levels. Each has a Short version of 10 questions with a 3-minute time limit and a Full version of 30 questions with an 8, 9 or 10-minute limit depending on the level. The site shows a countdown.

Should I take the Short or Full version?

Short version is for a quick overview, Full version for a more precise score. Choose Full if you want a longer diagnostic run; choose Short if you want a brief check.

How should I prepare for this subject?

Revise home front policies such as rationing, conscription and propaganda, and practise recognising military equipment from written descriptions. Study the difference between civilian campaigns and frontline operations. Use the Hint only for method, never for the answer.

How are my correct answers turned into a result band?

One point is awarded per correct answer. The share of correct answers gives the band: below 40% Needs work, from 40% Intermediate, from 60% Advanced, and from 80% Expert, but Expert appears only at Expert level; other levels stop at Advanced.

What do I receive if I pass the test?

You pass with at least 6 out of 10 in a Short version or 18 out of 30 in a Full version. A passed test earns a PDF certificate with first and last name, score, date, certificate number and QR code; it is attached to the result email and downloadable.

Can I retake it and how do rankings use retakes?

Yes, use Start again; the questions are the same and in the same order, so a retake mostly measures memory. The rankings show only your best attempt, with highest score then shortest time, and your result remains visible only to you.
