Frequently asked questions
What exactly does this test assess?
It measures your understanding of climate mechanisms such as volcanic forcing, Milankovitch cycles, global circulation and maritime influences, with 10 or 30 questions depending on the version. It is useful for learners revising geography and for curious readers checking their level.
How do the levels and formats differ?
There are three levels, Easy, Intermediate and Expert, each with its own question series and no difference in question count. Choose Short version for a 10-question, 3-minute overview or Full version for 30 questions and a more precise score, taking 8 to 10 minutes by level.
How should I prepare for this subject?
Revise the physical processes behind climate zones, atmospheric layers, ocean-driven temperature patterns and orbital cycles, because questions test cause-effect understanding rather than definitions alone. Practise reading climate charts and water-balance data quickly. Use the Hint buttons during the test for method tips that do not lower your score.
What do the result bands mean?
Your score is one point per correct answer, shown out of the total. The band is Needs work below 40%, Intermediate from 40%, Advanced from 60%, and Expert from 80%, but only when taking the Expert level; at Easy and Intermediate the top band is Advanced.
When do I get a certificate?
You earn a PDF certificate when you reach the passing threshold: 6 out of 10 for any short version, or 18 out of 30 for any full version. It includes your first and last name, score, date, certificate number and a QR code for verification, sent with your result email.
Can I retake it, and will my ranking count all attempts?
You can retake the test as often as you like with Start again, but the questions are the same and in the same order, so a retake mostly measures memory. Public rankings show only your best attempt: highest score, then shortest time.
Who can see my result?
Your result is visible only to you. When a result is unlocked, the public rankings show only your first name, last-name initial, country, city, score and time. Country and city are estimated from your internet connection, never GPS.
